Emerson Bay Recreation AreaThe north-west Lakes area of Iowa offers a wide variety of options for outdoor recreation, all year round. The Emerson Bay Recreation Area, located on the south-west shore of West Okoboji Lake around two and a half miles north of Milford, is the perfect place for all kinds of land and water activities. The recreation area is a 120-acre paradise of gorgeous scenery and wildlife, with plenty of fun activities on offer. Living in this area means you?re never far away from a top-quality camping site that offers facilities for day-trips and longer vacations.Boating, swimming, hiking, and biking are all perfect activities for the outdoors-loving family. Boat ramps are conveniently placed, and there are plenty of nature trails as well as a lake-side observation platform?a good spot for bird-watching in the early morning and evening. Pets are allowed here, so this is a great place to bring the family dog, too. A short trip north of Emerson Bay, the lighthouse area offers spectacular views of the lake, and is a great place for picnicking. The winter months can be just as much fun, with activities such as snowmobiling available in the recreation area. There are some prime fishing spots in the area for the keen angler, with opportunities for shallow fishing in the bay and fishing in the deeper waters of the lake?fishing in and around Emerson Bay will yield yellow perch, bucktails, bulldogs, bluegills, and crank fish. In the winter months, the mouth of the bay is a great spot for walleyes. The lakes in the area are also great for winter ice-fishing, a truly memorable experience. |
