Iowa Winery

Iowa has a booming winery culture and that culture is beginning to pop up around Lake Okoboji. Lake Okoboji and its surrounding area are well known for the outdoor adventures to be had there ? fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, biking, golfing, water skiing, snow skiing and many other activities. Sometimes, however, it?s nice to take a break from the physical activities and spend some time giving your palate an adventure. Visiting a winery and partaking in a wine tasting may be just the thing to do.

What can you expect from a wine tasting at a small winery? Usually one of the winery?s employees will guide you through a tasting of their current vintage, often pairing each wine with a complementary cheese, bread or other food. Visitors to the winery often get a short education in wine and how it is made and also a history lesson based around the winery?s property and owners. Some wineries even allow visitors to tour the winery and see how the wine is made.

The closest winery to Lake Okoboji is Little Swan Winery in Estherville. It?s a short 19 mile drive from the shores of the lake to this charming winery and its well known Buffalo Blush wine. The Little Swan Winery is right in the middle of buffalo country, and visitors can watch the buffalo as they enjoy a free tour while sampling wine and cheese at this casual, friendly winery.
